health_careIn a victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.

The 220-215 vote cleared the way for the Senate to begin debate on the issue that has come to overshadow all others in Congress.

Consumers can soon access health cost info

health_costsConsumers across the country soon will be able to find impartial information about out-of-network health care costs on a new Web site, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

The information will be collected by a new not-for-profit company, FAIR Health, in partnership with a research consortium based at Syracuse University, Cuomo said.

The new database “will bring much-needed transparency, accountability and fairness to a broken consumer reimbursement system” and could benefit more than 100 million Americans nationwide, Cuomo said. Read the rest of this entry »
